Sometimes when you interview candidates for a job, everything seems so perfect. You really connected in the interviews, the candidates acted interested in the opportunities and you followed up in a timely manner. So why did they turn you down? There are a lot of reasons candidates might say no to your job offers. Here are some of the most common.
Your job doesn’t pay their minimum.
Your candidates should be prepared for salary negotiations. They may have been coached to have a “walk away” number. This is an offer too low for them to accept. To avoid this becoming a problem, look at websites such as salary.com to determine the best range in your area for the job.
They found something undesirable online.
Have you Googled yourself or your company lately? If not, you may want to check your online profiles. Your candidates are increasingly more online savvy and will search your company before they decide to take an offer. If they find anything negative, they may say no to an offer. You should take control of your online reputation to prevent this from being a big problem.
They were given another offer.
Sometimes their rejection has nothing to do with your company at all. Job seekers aren’t exclusively interviewing with your organization, so they may have other irons in the fire. It is quite possible that someone simply got to them first and made them an offer that they couldn’t refuse.
They didn’t feel they connected.
The most important piece for you when it comes to hiring new employees is to ensure that they are a good fit with the rest of the team. This can be challenging to measure in a short period of time. Not only are you looking at this aspect, but so are the potential employees. If they don’t feel they would fit in, they may not accept the job.
